MH²O Targeted Swim Meets

Swimming Competitions Targeted By MH²O

It is important to remember that there are many swimming competitions (meets) offered through Swimming Victoria that registered MH2O club members may compete in. MH2O coaches however, choose amongst the meets those which are considered most important and relevant. There will nearly always be an MH2O coach at these targeted meets to help provide guidance to first time competitors, as well as warm-up, race strategy, tactics and advice. There may be different meets targeted for different squads. All squad swimmers should check here regularly as well as with their coach for the meets which have been targeted for their squad. Apart from Teen Fit, All squad swimmers must compete and are therefore encouraged to compete at as many targeted meets as possible. Make sure you get your entries in on time!

Swimmers and parents alike are advised to read the competition hints which details competition procedures and expectations at meets. Please click here

Lastly, you need to fill in a Swimming Victoria entry form, which can be found at the bottom of this page together with the conversion chart. Remember that your Swimmer Registration Number is the first three letters of your surname, the first two letters of your first name, then your birthdate in 6 digits.

Swimmers are expected to wear full club uniforms at all meets, arrive in good time to warm up and sit together and support their fellow team mates.  Parents are also encouraged to wear our club T-shirt or polo shirt

Swim Meet Calendar 2010

The swim meet calendar (PDF) is updated regularly as more swim meets are posted. (Last updated 22 April 2010.)

Targeted Meets coming up in Term 3 2010

Some of the meets we'll be targetting this term include: Eltham Swimming Club Short Course Meet (click here for flyer), Essendon Aquatic Short Course Meet (click here for flyer), Surrey Park Short Course Meet (click here for flyer), and Melbourne Vicentre August Short Course Meet (click here for flyer)

Most Recent Targeted Meets for Term 1 2010

Term One competitions arrive very quickly once school returns.  It is important to get entries in for meets BEFORE going on holidays as it will be too late once you return.  We would like as many swimmers as possible to qualify for the Long Course Victorian Sprint Championships to be held early February.  In order to qualify, swimmers must compete at an official qualifying meet and make the times in their events.

As most meets fill their quota of competitors well before the entry closing date, it is STRONGLY recommended that entries arrive AT LEAST one week before the due date, but preferably earlier to quarentee a place.   Victorian State Championship events such as the Victorian Sprint Championships do not have a quota, but late entries or incorrect entries are NEVER accepted.  If you are running late with your State entries, the Swimming Victoria letterbox is locate immediately outside the main entry doors to MSAC and you can hand deliver them on the closing day up to 5pm.

There targeted meets listed in the claendar will have a coach in attendence.  We recommend swimmers compete at as many meets as possible to maximise their chances of making State qualifying times. If you are unable to make a targeted meet, please go into the Swimmng Victoria website and find other meets to attend in their calendar (click on events/calendar).  Swimmers who are unable to compete at the targeted meets should consider entering this.  Please see your coach first, to determine which events your swimmer should enter.

Note that ALL swimmers 14 years and under are expected to compete at the Metro South ALL Juniors irrespective of the squad they train in or club registration status.  We have given plenty of notice of this meet having listed it last year.  There are no qualifying times and it is a great meet to gain experience for those all important school competitions.  It allows the coaches to see their swimmers under race conditions, to offer feedback and importantly, make corrections and iron out problems so they can improve.  It teaches the kids what the correct race protocols and procedures are and help them to get their nerves or misgivings about racing, under control, particularly for those with little or no experience.

In order:
1. Melbourne Vicentre Long Course Meet closes Jan 27th and there is a limit on numbers so entries are likely to close a good week before hand.  THis is excellent for any age swimmer who wants additional race practise, particularly for those competing in the Vic Sprint CHamps the following week.  It is also mandatory for anyone swimming in Tasmania as a final qualifying meet and to practise their proposed events.
2. Victorian Sprint Championships at MSAC on both the 13th and 14th February. Entries Close 1st February. Download Event List (PDF).
3. Metro South All Junior Eliminations. Entries close Wed 10th February.  Download Flyer (PDF).
4. Metro District South Championships. Entries close 17th February

Tassie Trip Term One 2010

We are aiming to send a team of MH2O Swimmers to the Tasmanian Age State Championships in March of next year, something we have done in years past..  The Tasmanian qualifying times are easier to make than Victoria’s, and the competition is not as hard making it an ideal swim meet to gain experience in travelling as a team.  It also gives some of our swimmers a chance to experience a heat and final format if they have not done so elsewhere.  Besides, it’s GREAT fun!.

Swimmers will be eligible to go if they meet certain criteria.  These are:

·         Financial Club Member aged 11 years or older

·         Achieve qualifying times in at least 3 individual events

·         Compete in a minimum of 2 meets (excluding Club Days) in both Term 4 2009 AND Term One 2010.

·         Regular attendance at training making mandatory session requirements.

In other words, we are looking for swimmers who have shown commitment to their sport and the trip will be seen as a reward for their effort.  It will act as a goal for the next 6 months, and will motivate them in their summer training and racing..  We hope parents will encourage their children and allow them to go, if they can meet the above.

Two coaches will be in attendance and we will ask for one or two parents to accompany the team in a support role, depending on the final numbers.

So we can begin to plan, please complete our expression of interest form which should be submitted to the office ASAP.

Download Expression of Interest Form (PDF) and see home page for details.

Swim Meet Entries

We recommend you discuss with your coach which events your swimmer should enter prior to entering.  Note there is usually a maximum number of swimmers who can be accommodated at any given meet and they tend to fill up well in advance of the closing date. It is important therefore that you make every effort to get your entries in early.  Click here for the SV Form which you should save to file for re-use.
