The swimming year is divided into 2 seasons.
The Summer or Long Course (LC) season with Long Course meaning training and racing in a 50m Olympic size pool, and the Winter or Short Course season in 25m pools. Our swimmers have a balance of training in both lengths in order to prepare them for the highest levels of competition.
Swimmers at this level are expected to train year round with 2 scheduled holiday breaks each year. These are for two weeks end of summer and 2 weeks end of winter. The holiday training timetable is posted on the club website once it has been finalised.
The coach works closely with each swimmer to determine short and longer term goals. It is vital that the swimmer, parents and coach determine which sessions throughout the week are best suited to achieving the swimmers goals to optimise training, as each training session has a different emphasis.
The number of sessions may also vary in collaboration with the coach and take into account exams, important events in swimmers personal lives that might impact on the ability to train, forthcoming competitions, and to balance work and rest. For instance in the immediate weeks leading to an important competition the swimmer may reduce the number of sessions they do for the week to enable the body to rest. This is known as Tapering.
Swimmers at this level are expected to stretch regularly and participate in the dry land strength and conditioning program when offered, to complement their swimming training, and to assist with the prevention of overuse injuries, by strengthening and balancing opposing muscle groups.
The coach works closely with the swimmer and will tailor the program to suit each swimmers goals. It is important that parents collaborate and support both the swimmer and the coach in a TEAM approach to obtain the best result.
Swimmers are expected to swim a range of swim meets each term including easier meets and State meets to give every opportunity to make National Qualifying times.
Payment is based on a 48 week year and divided into 12 monthly instalments.
