WHY A COACH?
Many swimmers who swim on their own may not realise that they could be causing themselves an injury through poor technique that could be corrected. Fitness swimmers can do hundreds of thousands of revolutions of their arms, and if they are not moving at the right time and in the right way, the shoulders can break down and cause injuries.
Those who have never trained in a squad invariably do not understand how to train either effectively or efficiently for the greatest health benefits.
If you were to undertake a gym or weight training program, most people would get themselves a trainer to teach them how to use the equipment correctly and to perform the exercises so the correct muscle groups are engaged. A trainer will also plan your programme so it progresses, challenges, is never boring and you don't stagnate.
Swimming is no different. This is why most swimmers need a coach to ensure they are training correctly, and not risking injury.
Whilst most good swimmers who swim well can find a rhythm and harmony in the water that can have a hypnotic, trancelike effect, simply swimming non stop up and down the pool is not a great way to train for fitness or health. Without constant variety your body gets 'stale' and no longer improves. It can also be lonely and boring.
Swimming in a squad, under a coach develops friendships with like minded people, and the coach will always make sessions fun, varied, interesting and challenging. You will not only train your body, but you will also train your mind to be sharp and alert with different drills and learning to read and interpret training sets, and working to a pace clock.
ADULT TRAINING
Anita has been both pioneer and leader in the field of adult swimming and is well regarded as one of Australia's best teacher and coach of adults. She is a Life Member of PowerPoints Masters Swimming Club where she held the position of Head Coach for over a decade.
We have programs to suit the beginner right through to elite pool, open water, surf, triathlon and State, National or even World Masters competitors. These are open to all levels of swimmers and afford many travel opportunities for like-minded people.
We offer both private lessons and group training squads, but either way we place a high emphasis on developing sound stroke technique.
Some swimmers train specifically for an array of competitive activities ranging from the Open Water swims such as the Lorne Pier-to-Pub; Triathlons and pool competitions.
In order to swim competitively, they must be affiliated with Masters Swimming by joining MH2O Swimming Club. Our members can compete at local interclubs, State, National or even World Masters events which are open to all levels of swimmers and afford many travel and social activities for like-minded people.

We have 4 levels of adult squads operating from either Prahran Aquatic Centre and St Catherine's School in Toorak.
Intermediate and Advanced Squads are based on swimmers training for 48 weeks of the year rather than just during the school term (40 weeks) so 4 weeks annual leave is factored into the pricing which can be taken at any time throughout the year.
- Novice Squad for those new to swimming who need mainly skill development and stroke technique and who would like ultimately to swim for fitness. They will learn how to work correctly in a squad; lane etiquette; how to read a pace clock; how to interpret the whiteboard etc. Small class sizes are tailored to individual needs.
- Adult Fit: 60 minute sessions for any swimmer who can complete 100 metres Freestyle and one other stroke. Fitness training is balanced with stroke and skill development
- Intermediate Squad; for those a bit more advanced in their swimming fitness and skills. Aim is to build fitness using systematic training principles and continue to refine technique and learn new strokes and skills. Some swimmers also work toward swimming related goals such as competing in ocean swims or pool competitions. Swimmers choose to do between 1- 4 sessions per week and pay monthly by direct debit as the squad runs all year. You also need to join our Masters swimming club. There is quite a bit of flexibility and swimmers can make up at any of the listed sessions. You can come to an Intermediate squad for a free trial if you like.
- Advanced Squad; Usually swimmers who have trained competitively in their youth with a higher degree of skill level and fitness, usually working toward goals and building or maintaining fitness. Technique is continually refined and improved and training is structured to work around seasonal performance goals. Must be fast enough to keep up with the group and membership of our Masters Swimming Club conditional upon joining.

- We do not refund or deduct for missed sessions, but you can make it up at any of the other similar sessions.
- Pool entry is additional at Prahran Pool.
